History

Since 1991, through a variety of support services, our Volunteer Program has assisted the Department of Children and Families (DCF) professionals in the initial care of abused,
neglected and abandoned children.

Our program was named in honor of Lea Walters, a dedicated volunteer whose vision was to have such a program for children with caring adults tending to their needs. Lea passed away from cancer in 1993 and left a legacy of love to thousands of children. Although we are not a “child care facility,” all volunteers who have direct contact with children have passed a mandatory FDLE background check and are fingerprinted. The program was incorporated in December 2001, and is now known as Lea’s Place, Inc.
